5 Bizarre and Amazing Markets Around the World

One of the first things on any travelers list of places to see in a new city is the local markets. It’s a great way to dive into the culture of a new location. You can see where the locals shop, what kind of foods they eat, see bizarre meat and fish you never knew existed, and sample some delicious new food from the food carts or stands that are surely to be nearby. Here are five of the most amazing and colorful markets I’ve visited around the world.

#1 La Boqueria – Barcelona, Spain

Lots of delicious colorful candy!

An assortment of tongue

Lambs Head

Dragon Fruit

Delicious Fruits

Fruits and Vegetables

#2 Russian Market – Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Too many colors to choose!

What in the world could that be hanging on the left?

You can buy literally anything you could need at this market.

Not sure what you would need this stuff for...

Literally everything. I even bought a copy of Madden for Xbox 360 for a couple bucks here...

#3 Ben Thanh Market – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Dry Goods

LiNH LAN?

Lots of bags

Doublemint!

Yummy... maybe?

Don't all those grasshoppers look delicious!?

#4 Christmas Market – Frankfurt, Germany

It looks cold!

It was very busy.

We visited a few days before Christmas 2007

In a beautiful square in Frankfurt

A German Christmas Tree

# 5 Sardar Market – Jodhpur, India

What is she even selling?

What? You don't buy your dishes in a place like this?

Those are some sweet pink glasses that kid has on.

That little kid and his mom look mad that they're in my picture

I love India!

Are these all pictures that you take yourselves? Some of the displays look so perfectly arranged that they look like magazine professionals took them. Anyway they are spectacular. I really like all of the vibrant, bright colors, I would love to see all of this in person. You are so lucky to see everything and I am so happy that you are taking advantage of this opportunity to see the world.

Yes they are very colorful, especially La Boqueria in Spain. I just wish I had my new camera back then, I’ll just have to visit all these places again and get new pictures!

I’m Vietnamese and Ben Thanh was a little hectic for me. La Bouqueria is awesome too! Tip: Iced fruit drinks are cheaper towards the back.

I completely forgot about those fruit juice drinks, thanks for reminding me. They were so delicious!
